Half day or full day? What Bali tour hours actually mean
One supplier’s half day is five hours, another’s is six. One full day is ten, another twelve. On a multi-vehicle group that gap decides the itinerary.
"Full day tour" sounds like a fixed product. It is not. It is a number of hours that varies by supplier, and the difference is large enough to change what you can fit into a day.
The hours are not standard
Across Bali transport suppliers you will see a half day defined as five hours by one operator and six by another, and a full day as ten hours by one and twelve by another. Same island, same words on the quotation, materially different product.
Compare two quotes without checking the hour count and you may be picking the more expensive one per hour while believing it is the cheaper option.
When the clock starts
Usually at hotel pickup, not at the first sight. On a group staying in Ubud with a south-coast programme, the drive alone can consume a meaningful part of a five-hour half day before anybody has seen anything.
Some suppliers also specify a starting area — a half-day rate valid from Kuta or Denpasar does not automatically apply to a pickup in Ubud or Sanur, which is quoted separately.
Extra hours
Where a supplier publishes an extra-hour rate, overtime is predictable and you can build a buffer into the quote. Where they do not publish one, an overrun becomes a negotiation at the end of a long day, with a tired driver and a group waiting. Ask for the extra-hour rate at quotation stage, per vehicle class.
Where the day realistically ends
A full-day rate is usually priced to a defined radius — commonly as far as Kintamani or Bedugul. Beyond that, the rate is renegotiated. Lempuyang, Amed, Lovina and Menjangan all sit further out, so a "full day" to those destinations is not the same product as a full day to Kintamani, and should not be quoted at the same price.
Overnight and multi-day
Programmes that keep the vehicle overnight are priced per day, and the hirer typically pays for the driver's accommodation. Relevant for Munduk, Pemuteran, Amed and any Java overland leg. Ask whether that is included or billed on top.
